Chikka Chikka is a maple-roasted fennel seed digestive made in small batches in New York's Hudson Valley. The brand is the flagship of I Can Has More, founded in 2024 by the husband-and-wife team Arif Khan and Sabeen Hasan, both first-generation South Asian-Americans who previously ran a Hudson Valley restaurant for seven years. The product is a modern take on mukhwas, the traditional Indian after-meal seed mix served to freshen the breath and round off a meal.

The base is the same across the line: fennel seeds and split coriander roasted with organic maple syrup and a touch of salt, then flavored three ways. Cinnamon uses warm Ceylon cinnamon with a little beet powder for color, cardamom is fragrant and aromatic, and mint is cool peppermint tinted green with spirulina. A small spoonful after a meal freshens the breath, but the blend also works steeped as a fennel tea or sprinkled over yogurt, oatmeal, and salads.

The packaging tells part of the story too. Chikka Chikka is made with two Hudson Valley partners, one a non-profit that employs veterans and people with disabilities, the other a local bean-to-bar chocolate maker. It comes in pocket-sized 1 oz reusable tins and 8 oz refill pouches, and after customers fell for the floral artwork on the tins, the makers had those patterns hand-block-printed onto cotton dinner napkins in Jaipur, India.

What is Chikka Chikka?

Chikka Chikka is a maple-roasted fennel seed digestive made in small batches in the Hudson Valley of New York, inspired by mukhwas, the traditional Indian after-meal seed mix. It is made with fennel seeds, split coriander, organic maple syrup, and salt, flavored as cinnamon, cardamom, or mint.

How do you use it?

Take a small spoonful after a meal as a breath freshener, or steep it in hot water for a fennel tea. It also works as a crunchy topping for yogurt, oatmeal, and salads. The 1 oz tins are refillable from the 8 oz pouches.

What is the difference between the varieties?

All three share the maple-roasted fennel and coriander base. Cinnamon is warm and maple-forward with Ceylon cinnamon, cardamom is fragrant and aromatic, and mint is cool and refreshing with peppermint oil. The three-pack includes one tin of each.
