Paktli at Madeline's
Share
Paktli makes Alegria Bites, a modern take on the traditional Mexican alegria, a street snack dating to the 16th century made from puffed amaranth bound with honey or chocolate. The brand was founded in 2020 by Seena Chriti, who grew up eating alegria in Mexico and built the company as a tribute to that heritage. Paktli means joy in Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs, echoing the Spanish word alegria, which also means joy.
The bites coat puffed ancient grains, amaranth, quinoa, and millet, in organic chocolate. The result is a light, crumbly, airy crunch under a layer of chocolate, made gluten-free and, in the dark and white versions, vegan. Paktli is a certified women-owned and minority business, and the bites are handmade by a small team.
The lineup runs from a milk chocolate and a white chocolate version to a 62% dark chocolate with dried wild blueberries and cacao nibs and a 70% extra dark with dried cranberries and cashews. A sample pack gathers the range together, and every flavor is offered in pack sizes from 4 to 20.
