Mixed Up Foods at Madeline's
Share
Mixed Up Foods makes small-batch blended nut butters, ground and jarred in Vermont. It was founded by Kent Arnold in May 2020. The first recipe came together a few months earlier, when a local store discontinued a nut butter his father loved and Kent, a home cook finishing his last semester at the University of Vermont, set out to recreate it. That blend became The New Favorite, the product that started the brand.
The throughline is blending rather than single nuts. Most jars combine several nuts, such as almonds, cashews, pecans, and walnuts, and lean on late-season Vermont maple sugar for sweetness instead of refined sugar. There is no palm oil and no artificial preservatives.
From there the lineup gets seasonal and regional. Maple Bliss layers pecans and walnuts with cashews and maple; Mud Season, named for Vermont's bittersweet fifth season, folds in cacao nibs and Vermont-roasted coffee for a lightly caffeinated crunch; and a limited Strawberry Creemee folds freeze-dried strawberries into a maple base for a strawberry-shortcake character.
