The 1 3/8-inch frame nail is a vinyl-coated, smooth-shank nail sized for assembling Langstroth bee frames by hand. The flat head lets you drive the top and bottom bars firmly into the side bars with a hammer, and the vinyl coating improves grip while reducing wood splitting.
At a glance
- Type: Frame assembly nail, hand-driven
- Length: 1 3/8 inch
- Shank: Smooth, vinyl coated for easier driving and stronger grab
- Use rate: 4 to 8 nails per frame (4 when paired with wood glue)
- Finish: Uncoated for corrosion, since the nails sit inside the hive
Best for
- Assembling new wooden Langstroth frames
- Repairing frames that have come apart
- Beginners building their first frames by hand
- Beekeepers who assemble frames without a nail gun
How to use
Drive the nails through the side bars into the top and bottom bars with a hammer. For the strongest joint, add wood glue and use four nails per frame; without glue, use up to eight.
