How to grow
Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost at a soil temperature of 60 to 80F; germination takes 5 to 12 days. Thin seedlings and transplant 6" apart about 2 weeks before the last frost into well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Keep the stems covered with loose soil to keep them bright white, and mulch heavily in cold climates. Leeks overwinter well in milder regions and can be harvested as needed.
