Bucket Feeder With Feeding Plugs
Bucket Feeder With Feeding Plugs
The Bucket Feeder With Feeding Plugs is a no-open-hive way to provide sugar syrup to honey bees. The round bucket has a pre-drilled lid and a 2-inch tint plug, so you can pour syrup in through the hole, flip the bucket onto the inner cover, and let the vacuum hold the syrup in place. It is offered in a 1-gallon (65 mil) bucket and a 2-gallon bucket.
At a glance
- Type: Inverted bucket (pail) syrup feeder
- Sizes: Round 65 mil 1-gallon bucket or round 2-gallon bucket
- Lid: Pre-drilled hole with a removable 2-inch tint plug and pull tab
- No metal screen: Feeds through holes you add to the tint plug
- Customizable: Poke or drill 2 to 6 small holes in the plug to suit the season
- Cleaning: Lid fully removes for easy cleaning and storage
Best for
- Feeding large volumes of syrup between apiary visits
- Spring and fall feeding (more holes for spring, fewer for fall)
- Monitoring how much syrup a colony has taken
- Beekeepers who prefer not to open the hive to feed
How to use
Drill 2 to 6 small holes in the tint plug, more for spring and fewer for fall. Fill the bucket completely with syrup, press the plug in place, then flip the bucket upside down over the hole in the inner cover. Surround it with an empty hive body and an outer cover, or drill a 2-inch hole in a migratory or telescoping cover so the bees can feed through it. Some syrup will drip until the vacuum builds, so test with water first.
