Buttercrunch Lettuce Seeds (Organic)
Buttercrunch Lettuce Seeds (Organic)
Buttercrunch Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) is a bibb-type butterhead that forms a compact yellow-white heart inside loose 4 to 6 inch rosettes of tender, richly flavored leaves. An All-America Selections winner in 1963, it is heat resistant, slow to bolt, and free of mosaic disease, giving a long harvest window even in warm weather.

How to grow
Sow in well-draining, compost-rich soil and keep evenly moist, aiming for about 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week while avoiding wet foliage. Thin plants to 4 to 6 inches and mulch to hold moisture. In hot climates, use shade cloth or a partly shaded spot, and start seeds indoors a few weeks before the last frost for an early crop. Pick outer leaves as the heart fills, or cut whole heads at the base.
Flavor profile
The leaves are soft and buttery with a mild, sweet taste and a crisp, velvety bite that suits delicate salads and fresh sandwiches.
