Guardian Bee Hive Entrance
Guardian Bee Hive Entrance
The Guardian Bee Hive Entrance is a patented bottom-board entrance that helps deter small hive beetles by masking the entrance and making it hard for beetles to navigate. Its physical barrier edges and red light technology disrupt beetle access while still letting bees, including drones, pass through.
At a glance
- Type: Patented small hive beetle-deterrent entrance
- Placement: Mounts on the bottom board as the primary entrance
- Deterrents: Barrier geometry plus red light technology
- Opening: About 0.29 inches wide, lets drones exit freely
- Compatibility: 10-frame, 8-frame, and 5-frame nucleus colonies
- Note: Attaches to a wooden entrance reducer; screws not included
Best for
- Reducing small hive beetle intrusion at the entrance
- Warm-season use during active beetle pressure
- New package or nucleus hive installations
- Beekeepers wanting a chemical-free first line of defense
How to use
Attach the Guardian to a wooden entrance reducer or similar support (screws not included) and install it as the bottom-board entrance. Bees typically adapt within about two hours. Per the manufacturer, install when temperatures are above 50 degrees F, and do not leave it on below 40 degrees F since beetles are inactive and the Guardian may be damaged. It is not designed to work as a mouse guard.
