Seed Package Size

Mexican Tarragon (Tagetes lucida) is a heat-tolerant heirloom herb from the marigold family, grown as an annual for its aromatic, anise-flavored leaves and cheerful yellow-orange flowers. Its bold, licorice-like leaves make an excellent substitute for French tarragon, and it thrives in hot climates where French tarragon does not survive. This packet contains approximately 100 seeds.

How to grow

Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep in well-draining soil with a soil temperature of 60 to 70°F. Seeds germinate in 7 to 14 days. Thin plants to 18 inches apart in full to partial sun. This drought-tolerant herb grows quickly to about 2 feet tall; regular pruning encourages fresh growth and a continuous supply of flavorful leaves through the season.

Flavor profile

Bold and licorice-like with a strong anise note, more pronounced than French tarragon. Excellent in egg, chicken, and meat dishes, with steamed green beans, in sauces, soups, and teas.
