Orange Currant is an indeterminate heirloom currant tomato bearing miniature, quarter to half-inch fruits in a beautiful clementine color. The thick skin makes it crack-resistant, and the flavor is excellent: fruity and sweet. Quality holds for a long time on and off the plant, and the tall, extremely productive vines bear all season.

At a glance

  • Variety: Orange Currant tomato (Solanum pimpinellifolium)
  • Type: Indeterminate currant, open-pollinated, non-GMO
  • Fruit: Tiny, 1/4 to 1/2 inch, clementine orange
  • Sun: Full sun
  • Traits: Crack-resistant, very productive
  • Use: Snacking, salads, garnishes

Best for

  • Bite-sized fresh snacking
  • Colorful salads and garnishes
  • Long-season, high-volume harvests
  • Trellis and cage growing
  • Gardeners wanting a sweet orange currant type

How to grow

Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost and transplant after frost has passed. Give the tall vines a sturdy cage or trellis and space about 36 inches apart in full sun. Water consistently and harvest the tiny fruits as they ripen.

Flavor profile

Sweet and fruity with a bright pop of flavor packed into each tiny, thick-skinned fruit.
