Pampas Plume is a striking heirloom celosia (Celosia argentea plumosa) with eye-catching feathery plumes in bright scarlet, lemon yellow, cream, pink, and orange. The flower heads bloom quickly and keep growing larger until harvested, thriving in hot, dry conditions. Each plant produces 10 to 24 stems.

At a glance

  • Botanical name: Celosia argentea plumosa
  • Type: Annual cut flower, open-pollinated, non-GMO
  • Plumes: Scarlet, yellow, cream, pink, orange
  • Sun: Full sun
  • Yield: 10 to 24 stems per plant
  • Traits: Heat and drought tolerant

Best for

  • Cut and dried flower arrangements
  • Bold, colorful garden borders
  • Hot, dry sites and xeriscapes
  • Pollinator and cottage gardens
  • High-yield cut-flower beds

How to grow

Start seeds indoors or direct sow after the last frost in full sun with well-drained soil. Celosia loves heat and tolerates dry spells once established. Pick the plumes at your preferred size before they go to seed, and cut regularly to encourage more stems.
