Small Hive Beetle Baitable Trap
Small Hive Beetle Baitable Trap
The Small Hive Beetle Baitable Trap is an in-hive beetle jail that catches adult small hive beetles in an oil reservoir. Bees naturally corral beetles into the trap, where thin slots let them in but the oil keeps them from escaping. An extra compartment holds bait to draw even more beetles in.
At a glance
- Type: In-hive small hive beetle trap (beetle jail)
- Compartments: Two oil compartments plus one lure compartment
- Entry: Thin slots let beetles in but trap them in the oil
- Placement: Secures on top of a frame; all frames still fit in the box
- Bait options: Fermenting fruit like melon or banana peel, or apple cider vinegar
- Maintenance: Opens up to empty and rinse with running water
Best for
- Catching adult small hive beetles inside the hive
- Knocking down high beetle populations
- Minimal-disturbance beetle control
- Backyard and commercial beekeepers
How to use
Fill the two outer compartments with basic cooking oil and add fermenting fruit or apple cider vinegar to the lure compartment. Secure the trap on top of a frame. For best results, place 2 to 4 traps in the top box between the outside frames and the side of the box, where beetles naturally hide. Open and rinse the compartments to empty as needed.
