Terranean Spices, Spreads & Snacks at Madeline's
Share
Terranean Spices, Spreads & Snacks is a Lebanese-American food maker founded by Tina Chamoun in December 2019 and based in Cleveland, Ohio. Chamoun grew up eating authentic za'atar and pita chips on visits to her parents' village in Lebanon, and started the company to fill a gap in the American market for a true, traditional za'atar rather than a generic imitation. The products are made by an all-women, largely immigrant team, and the business is WBENC-certified women-owned.
Za'atar is the heart of the line. Terranean blends dried true za'atar (origanum syriacum) with sumac, sesame seeds, and salt, then offers it several ways: a dry shaker blend, a spicy version with cayenne, a 12 oz Non-GMO Project Verified bulk bag, and the brand's best-selling condiment spread, which folds the same blend into cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil and packs it in a reusable Italian glass jar. The blends are lab tested as non-GMO and gluten free, and made without artificial preservatives, additives, emulsifiers, or colorings.
Beyond za'atar, the company makes ground sumac, hand-harvested sea salt from the coastal Lebanese village of Anfeh (where salt has been collected by sun-drying for centuries), and a set of Mediterranean seasoning blends for all-purpose use, chicken, steak, and seafood, curated by Chef Sally Chamoun of Aladdin's Eatery. The snack side is built on thin, twice-baked Lebanese pita chips in original za'atar, spicy za'atar, sea salt, and cinnamon sugar, baked in small batches and shipped twice weekly. Terranean products are now carried in more than 500 retail locations across 25 states.

What is za'atar?
Za'atar is a Middle Eastern blend built around the dried za'atar herb (origanum syriacum), combined with sumac, toasted sesame seeds, and salt. Terranean makes it as a dry shaker, a bulk bag, and an olive oil spread. It is used on pita and breads, stirred into hummus and labneh, and sprinkled over eggs, vegetables, and salads.
Are Terranean products vegan and gluten free?
The za'atar blends, spreads, sumac, and Mediterranean seasonings are vegan, and the za'atar blends are lab tested as non-GMO and gluten free. The pita chips are vegan but contain wheat and sesame, and are packed in a facility that also handles eggs, milk, tree nuts, gluten, and sesame, so check the label if you have allergies.
