Cast Iron Skillet Cornbread with Honey Butter

Golden, rustic cornbread baked in a cast iron skillet and served warm with creamy honey butter.

Ingredients

  • 1 box Heirloom Cornbread Mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter, divided
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Sea salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter for honey butter
  • Additional honey for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F and place a 10-inch cast iron skillet inside to heat for 5 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, combine Heirloom Cornbread Mix with egg and milk, stirring just until combined (do not overmix).
  3. Stir in 2 tablespoons melted butter and 2 tablespoons honey until fully incorporated.
  4. Remove hot cast iron from oven and coat the bottom with remaining 1 tablespoon melted butter.
  5. Carefully pour batter into the hot skillet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. While cornbread bakes, blend softened butter with honey to create honey butter.
  7. Remove cornbread from oven and serve warm with a generous dollop of honey butter on each slice.
