How to grow
Sow indoors in flats in early spring, or direct sow outdoors as soon as the soil is workable, covering seeds with 1/4" to 1/2" of fine soil. Germination takes 4-10 days. Thin or transplant to 4" to 6" apart in full sun and well-fertilized, moderately moist soil. When mature, bend the tops, let the bulbs cure until the leaves brown, then dry and store in a cool, dry, ventilated space.
Flavor profile
Sweet and mild with a crisp texture, good for fresh eating and slicing as well as cooking, where the flavor mellows further.
