  • Garnishes, stir-fries, soups, and salads
  • Replacing chives with thinnings and green stems
  • Cold-climate gardens needing an overwintering onion

How to grow

Sow seed 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep in a sunny spot with well-drained soil amended with organic matter at a pH of 6.0 to 7.0. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, and thin seedlings for proper spacing. Harvest green tops as needed, or leave plants to develop thicker stalks. The clumps continue producing new shoots throughout the growing season.

Flavor profile

Mild and crisp with a subtle onion taste, gentle enough to use raw in salads and garnishes.
