The Miracle Fruit Plant (Synsepalum dulcificum), also known as the miracle berry tree, is a fruiting tropical shrub whose berries contain miraculin, a natural protein that temporarily makes sour foods taste sweet. Shipped fresh from a Florida nursery, this plant is acclimated to a warm subtropical environment for strong growth and steady berry production.

  • Indoor growing in cooler regions so it can be brought inside
  • Warm-zone outdoor gardens
  • Low-sugar and natural flavor-enhancement diets
  • Tasting parties and culinary experiences

How to grow

Grow in acidic, peat-based soil with a pH between 4.5 and 5.8, in full to partial sun with high humidity. Water regularly to keep the soil moist but not soggy, and feed monthly with an acid-loving plant fertilizer. In cooler regions, grow in a container so it can be moved indoors.

Flavor profile

The small red berries are mild and mildly sweet on their own. Their value comes from miraculin, which coats the tongue and makes sour foods such as lemons taste sweet for a short time.
