How to use
For laundry, place about 1/2 cup of shells in a cloth or mesh bag and add to a normal load. You will see few or no suds, which is normal. Reuse the shells several times until they turn gray and soft, then compost them. Add a few drops of lavender, orange, or lemon essential oil if you prefer fragrance. To make a liquid concentrate, simmer 12 to 15 soap nuts in about 6 cups of water for an hour, strain, and refrigerate; the concentrate can be used as a household and glass cleaner, dish and carpet cleaner, pet wash, jewelry cleaner, or hair wash.
